What is Collagen?Collagen is a protein that accounts for up to 33% of the protein in the human body.
Collagen is the primary structural protein found in the connective tissues in the body (including the skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments).
Collagen makes up 75% of our skin and is one of the major factors contributing to a plump, smooth appearance of young healthy skin.
Collagen's major role in the skin is the support system in the ground substance surrounding the cells. During skin ageing, collagen breakdown and reduced collagen production, contributes to wrinkle formation and decreased skin elasticity.
What is Hydrolyzed Collagen?
Hydrolyzed collagen protein (HCP) is also known as purified gelatin and collagen hydrolysate. This is simply a modified form of the protein that has been broken down into smaller pieces by enzymes which makes the protein easier to incorporate into dietary products and may ease the digestion and absorption of the amino acids by the intestine.
HCP has most recently been used to promote joint health, nourish cartilage and bones and help athletes recover from exercise and sports-related injuries. HCP has been used by European health practitioners for decades as an alternative treatment for arthritis and osteoporosis.
Why do I use PureLogicol for my patients?
Collagen is a relatively inexpensive product to produce; therefore there are many cheap grades of low quality collagen supplements available. Normally collagen would be too large to penetrate the tissue. This has always been the reason why doctors do not believe that collagen is effective for skin ageing.
PureLogicol contains a highly soluble collagen which is bio-available allowing the body to readily absorb the collagen into the small intestine.
PureLogicol has a unique process where the collagen is enzymatically treated to break down the molecule to around 2000 Daltons. This enables most of the collagen to be absorbed into the small intestine. It is even visible to the eye that PureLogicol contains a very pure collagen, white in colour. This is the first collagen supplementation that I have prescribed for my patients, where I can see visibly and by means of scientific analysis, the benefits it has for skin ageing.
