The facts about your skin

Understanding your skin and its changing needs means that you can develop a good skincare programme that will keep you looking your best.

Babies and small children have perfect skin, its soft, smooth and dewy, needing just a quick wipe to clean. However, as you get older your skin changes and caring for it takes more time and effort. Your skin also becomes more vulnerable to the effects of fluctuating hormones, the weather, the environment, what you have eaten and how you are feeling.

The Facts:

Your skin is packed with nerve endings that enable you to sense warmth, cold, touch, pain, light and taste.

Your skin is made of 2 parts, a thin outer layer called epidermis and a much thicker inner layer, which is called the dermis.

The dermis contains the collagen and elastin that make your skin feel firm and look plump and healthy.

Your skin has a monthly cycle, new cells form at the base of the epidermis and take about a month to reach the surface and flake off.

To keep your skin looking young and healthy, ensure that you check your skin regularly and adapt your skincare regime to the changing needs of your skin.
