Smoking can cause premature ageing

The majority of people are aware of the dangers of smoking and the side effects it can cause. We all know how it can cause cancer, heart disease, bad teeth and nails. However, a lot of people are not so aware of the affects smoking can have on their skin.

Scientists have found that smoking can have adverse affects on your skin and can speed up the ageing process. The smoke from a cigarette can deprive your skin of oxygen and nutrients and then make it become dehydrated.

Nicotine acts the same way as the sun and can make you look older than you actually are. Cigarette smoke reduces the amount of collagen in your skin, which then makes your skin weaker and thinner.

Skin damage caused by smoking is not always visible and many people choose to ignore the facts until it is too late. If you want to repair skin that may have been damaged by smoking, then here are some tips to follow.

Try to keep your skin hydrated, you can do this by drinking plenty of water.
Ensure you have a good skincare regime, cleanse, tone and moisturise regularly.
Use good facial creams, especially some collagen skin care creams.
Invest in a good anti ageing cream.
Try to stop smoking or cut down to 5 cigarettes a day.
