Lack of sleep can cause premature ageing
Insomnia and sleep deprivation can have an immense affect on the appearance and ageing of your skin. A good skincare routine and plenty of sleep will revitalise your skin and also your body and mind.
It is quite simple to inherit a good skincare routine, but if you suffer from insomnia, either due to a demanding lifestyle or everyday worries, then you will know how frustrating this can be.
It is recommended that most adults need at least 7 hours sleep a night, but many get by on 5 hours. Research has found that woman sleep 15 minutes more than men and people often sleep more than they need to.
There are many benefits to sleep that some people are unaware of. When we sleep, our bodies release beauty hormones, such as collagen and keratin. These hormones help skin and lips look plump and youthful. Also when we sleep our bodies regenerate skin cells which help prevent blemishes and dry skin.
Here are some tips to help you relax and fall asleep naturally, as good sleep means bright eyes, a clear head and most importantly a glowing complexion.
1. Create a clam zone. Ensure that your bedroom is a relaxation zone only, and only decorate in calming colours, such as lavender or pale blue. Curtains must block light from getting through, as darkness stimulates melatonin, which is the hormone that makes you feel sleepy.
2. Absolute silence. Don't have ticking alarm clocks in your bedroom and try to discourage snorers from drinking alcohol or sleeping on their backs. If you can't help having noise in or near your bedroom, invest in some good ear plugs.
3. Get rid of tension. When you are in bed do a relaxation exercise, start at your toes and gradually work up your body, tense and then relax all your muscles, even those in your face.
4. Good thoughts. Think calming thoughts and imagine yourself fast asleep and snuggled up warm in a big cosy bed and then focus on the sound of your breathing.
