How food can affect your skin

Many people don't realise that the saying 'you are what you eat' is in fact quite true and certain foods can affect the way your skin looks and feels. Some food can even speed up the signs of ageing. Here are some foods that you need to limit to help protect your skin and although you may cut out some of the following foods, always ensure that you continue to carry out your daily skincare regime.

Saturated fat, mainly found in dairy products, biscuits and cakes, will increase blood cholesterol levels. Furred arteries can put stress on your heart and also on your skin, which can then show signs of premature ageing.

Alcohol can make your skin become dry, dull, blotchy and irritated, which are the definite tell tale signs of dehydrated skin. Too much intake of alcohol is not good for you and can change the way your kidneys and liver function, which then tends to reduce the amount of waste eliminated from your body. This can then have an impact on your skin’s clarity.

We all like a caffeine hit every once in a while, but some people like it a bit too much. Caffeine can make you become irritable and although it is a stimulant, it can make you feel tired, which in turn makes your complexion appear washed out and dark circles under your eyes become more visible.

Your skin is one of the most important parts of your body, so protect it the best you can and there is no time like the present.
