Last updated: Tuesday 13th January 2015
Here’s to a beautiful New Year! It’s time for a fresh start, healthier living and a new you!
January is a perfect time to implement your beauty resolutions for the year ahead. Starting with a simple daily skincare routine will make a big difference.
1. Boost your collagen from within
Collagen is the key structural component of skin; it gives skin its volume, firmness and elasticity. Stimulating your collagen from within will reduce fine lines and wrinkles which will help your skin look more youthful and smooth.
You can help boost your collagen levels from within by taking a daily collagen supplement. A pure collagen supplement will help stimulate your natural collagen production, and will increase your skin’s moisture levels. Vitamin C also boosts collagen, so be sure to get enough from your diet or take a vitamin C nutritional supplement.
2. Stimulate your skin's cell-renewal
As we age, the skins cell renewal process slows down which causes the skin to look dry and dull. As a result of the decreased cell turnover, enlarged pores, age spots and fine lines may also be evident.
The good news is that you can stimulate your skins cell-renewal process by exfoliating.
Using an alpha hydroxy acid daily face wash, is an effective way to exfoliate the skin. It encourages cell turnover which rejuvenates the skin to reveal a youthful and more radiant complexion.
Alpha hydroxy acids include glycolic acid, lactic acid and citric acid which are natural acids found in fruit, sugar cane and other foods. They effectively remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. You could also opt for a gentle face scrub or a face peel.
3. Defend against free radical damage and environmental elements
Free radicals cause oxidative stress to the skin and body which can cause cell damage and premature ageing. Antioxidants have the ability to help neutralize free radicals.
They can be obtained from a healthy and balanced diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables. Due to our busy lifestyles, we may not be getting adequate antioxidants from our foods to protect our skin and body. Introducing a vitamin supplement or an antioxidant nutritional supplement will help neutralize free radicals. Applying a vitamin rich day cream and night cream will also help defend your skin from free radicals.
4. Nourish and hydrate
If you want to maintain a healthy and youthful complexion, then nourishing and hydrating the skin is essential. As we age, the skins natural moisture level decreases. In the winter months, the skin can become dry and cracked. It is therefore important to moisturize regularly to protect the skin and keep it supple.
Use a moisturizer that contains vitamins A, C and E, essential oils and skin comforting natural extracts to nourish and lock in moisture. Moisturizing instantly increases skin volume, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also soothes the skin and will give you an instant radiant glow!
